2-Year Maintenance Apprenticeship
Continental Tire has been around for nearly 150 years, changing the way the world moves while making it more safe, smart, sustainable and accessible. Our Sumter location is seeking Multi-Craft Apprentices to join our Maintenance department.
About the role
Continental is looking for candidates for our Multi-Craft 2-year Apprentice Program to work in our Sumter, SC plant. During the Apprenticeship, the Apprentice shall receive applicable training through a regionally accredited Technical College program and additional work experience via daily work activities. Apprentices are mentored through the guidance of our Qualified Maintenance Technicians.
Selected Candidates will receive 40 hours of paid work as reflected under the terms and conditions of our 2-year Apprenticeship agreement and other local requirements. Candidates must maintain a 2.8 GPA while in the program.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair control devices and motors in the 110 V AC to 4160 VAC range; maintain power transformers (4160, 460, 460/110) and lighting transformers (4160/277).
- Repair relay/limit switch logic devices and any electronic type control devices that utilize solid state components, transistors, diodes, VDC, including printed circuit board assemblies.
- Troubleshoot, program and repair PLC’s on the shop floor and any control devices used in conjunction with plant services in steam, water, air, etc. (electrical or mechanical).
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines and equipment, and make adjustments.
- Effectively communicate with maintenance supervision, other engineering personnel, and area department supervision.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Follow all plant policies, environmental policies, and plant and departmental safety policies.
- Operate a Fork Lift (certification provided through internal training).
- Perform machinist work using common machine tools to cut, shape, form, etc.
- Troubleshoot as a mechanic using common hand tools to adjust, replace worn and broken parts of a structural, rotating, reciprocating or running nature.
- Accurately and correctly record job time and service/attendance time.
- Perform other duties as directed by Engineering and Maintenance management.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Associates Degree in a related field or currently enrolled in the second semester or higher of a Technical College program (Mechatronics or E&I) with a current GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Willingness to work a flexible work schedule.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship available for this role).
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of manufacturing experience.
- Current GPA above 3.0.
