Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping
  • Strength rating for medium work - exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and /or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Qualifications

  • Tend fabricating machines, such as forming machines, brake presses, and shears
  • Read job orders and specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Set stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scale, rule, or template
  • Position workpieces against stops manually or by using a hoist
  • Push buttons or depress pedals for machine activation
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions
  • Measure workpiece dimensions using rules, templates, or other measuring instruments to ensure accuracy of machine operation
  • Remove individual parts from machines upon completion and place them in boxes, racks, or stacks based on requirements
  • Load or unload specified coils of material on manual or powered pay-off reels for distribution to machines
  • Shrink wrap, package, or band boxes containing finished goods
  • Apply paper labels to individual parts or packages
  • Assist in setting up machines and transporting finished workpieces
  • Ensure quality control inspections of parts according to quality check sheets

  • Ability to operate various fabricating machines
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting job orders and specifications
  • Manual dexterity and ability to handle small parts
  • Attention to detail and follow-through
