1st Shift Inspector Packer

About the role

Perform tasks involved in the production, inspection, and packing of Altor Solutions’ products. Report any products that have not met company quality standards to the appropriate individual (Quality, Set-Up Technician, Production Supervisor). Follow Altor Solutions’ standards for Safety, Housekeeping, Quality, and Production in an efficient and safe manner.

Responsibilities

• Remove product from conveyor belt and place into drying racks, boxes, or bags.
• Pack product into drying racks, boxes, or bags.
• Use heavy-duty tape machines to cut tape and wrap product for storage or delivery.
• Lift and remove completed boxes or bags, placing them in designated locations, wagons, or pallets.
• Receive verbal and written job assignments; read and comply with product description and packing instructions on Quality/Production Data sheets.
• Complete “Operator Production/Quality Report,” packing reports, worksheets, and/or “special” customer requirement inspection forms as required.
• Perform visual inspections and/or use measuring devices such as scales, steel rules, and calipers to ensure acceptable finished product quality.
• Notify supervisor of discrepancies and record required information on Operator Quality Report.
• Inventory tape, labeling, bags, boxes, or drying racks and notify Material Handler of items needed.
• Observe machine operation to detect defects in finished product and notify Supervisor of any problems.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures; immediately notify Supervisor of any production, quality, or safety issues.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure a neat, organized work area at all times.
• Notify Supervisor of need to be away from machine during shift.
• Assist with material handling and support less experienced team members as needed.
• Verify quality specifications for product.
• Pack and inspect product at a rate of up to 60 parts per minute; ability to lift 40 pounds.
• Ensure product is packaged in accordance with established quality and product standards for assigned production line.
• Familiarize yourself with daily production goals to ensure they are achieved for each line assignment.
• Operate production line equipment to inspect, pack, and/or count products automatically or manually in accordance with established production standards.
• Seal and label packages properly after packing, then move completed packages for loading onto a pallet.
• Enter data properly in ERP system.
• Start and stop pressing equipment; know the location of emergency buttons and understand the lockout/tagout policy.
• Determine the difference between good prints, print rejects, set-up rejects, and manufacturer rejects.
• Accurately calculate all print and manufacturer rejects to account for all containers assigned to the production order.
• Identify various foam specifications and distinguish between types.
• Understand the differences between box labels (Box/Case labels, Work-In-Process (WIP) labels, reject labels, Partial Carton labels) and where to place them on the box.
• Wear PPE properly in accordance with company standards.
• Maintain a clean workstation, free from dirt and debris; clean assigned areas of the building or equipment as instructed.
• Work assigned shifts, including overtime and attend after-hour meetings as needed.
• Communicate with co-workers and leadership about safety, housekeeping, quality, and production issues.
• Follow plant-specified job training guidelines.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 3–6 months of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and understand basic math.
