Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the hogs, checking and cleaning hog pens, and leading the hogs to the harvest chutes as needed.
  • Enforcing humane handling of the hogs in the barn and while being unloaded from delivery persons.
  • Moving hogs efficiently to maintain a steady flow throughout the plant.
  • Communicating with other employees in the livestock barn to effectively move hogs from the delivery truck to pens and then to be harvested.
  • Communicating with chute workers on the Harvest Floor to ensure hogs are ready when needed and to adjust the harvest drive as necessary.
  • Dumping hair barrels.
  • Placing hogs in pens.
  • Moving hogs from the pens to the Harvest floor.
  • Ensuring the humane handling of hogs and their safe, humane unloading.
  • Conducting checks on the condition of the hog pens and the hogs.
  • Ensuring no more than 10 hogs are delivered to the Harvest Floor chute at one time.
  • Ensuring a steady flow of hogs to the harvest floor with minimal downtime and no backups.
  • Picking up trash around the plant and emptying trash cans around the parking lot.
  • Helping with the cleaning and sanitizing of the hog pens.
  • Preparing tools and equipment for the day.
  • Helping prepare hogs for harvest.
  • Delivering hogs to the harvest floor when harvest begins in the morning.
  • Ensuring the correct hogs are being taken to harvest.
  • Delivering hogs as needed to the harvest floor until the harvest ends.
  • Cleaning and putting away all tools.
  • Cleaning the barn.
