1Capen Student Services Advisor

UB’s 1Capen Student Services Center seeks a Student Services Advisor to deliver in-person, public-facing support for the triage area that houses Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Transcripts/Registrar, UB Card, Student Health Insurance, Veterans Benefits, and Parking & Transportation.

About the role

This highly visible position helps students navigate the university, understand policies and procedures, and address challenges by connecting them with the appropriate offices. The advisor reports to the Director of 1Capen and 1Diefendorf Student Services.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Center operations and student support services.
• Maintain university-wide knowledge of policies, procedures, resources, and services that affect student success and needs.
• Provide excellent holistic student support, responding empathetically and accurately to inquiries.
• Partner with campus units (Admissions, Financial Aid, academic advisors, faculty, Student Accounts, Campus Living) to help students navigate complex, intersecting issues.
• Give accurate, timely referrals to campus and community resources such as Counseling Services, Tutoring & Academic Support Services, Center for Excellence in Writing, and Blue Table.
• Supervise student employees.
• Handle communications, center technology, and data reporting.
• Provide administrative support, including third-party billing.
• Assist with events and special projects (semester start-up, orientation).
