About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc., so that they may always look and feel their best. The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, assist them to become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and to follow medical guidelines that are in place.

Responsibilities

• Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing
• Support individuals to medical appointments, banking, and community outings
• Administer medications and follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and medical guidelines
• Safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency
• Maintain certifications and comply with Agency policies and DDS regulations

Schedule

• Sunday 4:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Thursday 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Friday 1:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Saturday 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.

Requirements

• 18 years or older with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and individuals supported, which may include holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

• Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
• Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history)
• Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team

Training & Certifications

• Paid New Employee Orientation
• Paid CPR/First Aid
• Safety Care training
• Defensive Driving training
• Medication Administration Program (MAP) training
• Program- and person-specific training at the individuals’ home

Pay

$17.50–$19.00 per hour

Sign-on Bonus

• $1,000 for full-time employees
• $500 for part-time employees
