08-Carolinas Water - Project Engineer

About the Role

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Engineer for the Water/Wastewater Division in the Charlotte, NC area. The successful candidate will complete specific project tasks assigned by the Project Manager, interfacing with the estimating division, Operations Coordinator, and Project Superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Primarily perform duties in planning for commercial projects.
• Maintain project logs (e.g., Submittal Log, RFI log).
• Maintain and update schedules.
• Identify need for and write RFIs.
• Prepare, review, and process shop drawings.
• Maintain as-built drawings.
• Collect and assemble O&M materials.
• Perform Purchase Order and Subcontract Scope analysis and drafting.
• Handle material purchasing and expediting.
• Document distribution.
• Value engineering design and proposals.
• Coordinate with Subcontractors and Vendors.
• Distribute contract documents to job site, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Visit project sites to monitor progress conformance to plans and standards.
• Coordinate facility startup activities.
• Provide the Project Manager with support and accurate information to maximize project management effectiveness.

Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Ability to learn P6 scheduling software.
• Ability to read and understand construction documents and plans.
• Familiarity with construction platform software.
• Bluebeam software experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant degree.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• 1-2 years of experience as a Project Engineer preferred.
