0781 Jet Operator - Direct

Under the direction of the Dyehouse Department, Jet Operators are responsible for loading machines, calibrating jets according to SOP, recording settings, and handling fabric throughout the dyeing process.

Responsibilities

• Load fabric into machines, sew fabric end-to-end, close hatches, and start machines.
• Patrol machines to ensure proper operation and address any issues.
• Unload machines by opening hatches, pulling out/cutting seams, cutting swatches, marking swatches and fabric, drying swatches, and dispatching them to the dyeing office.
• Record data on m.o and SPC forms, enter data into WIP, and deliver m.o to the next process.
• Prepare shade checks as required, including cutting and marking swatches, reloading fabric, and restarting machines.
• Reverse fabric using a reel on the dye machine or sky reel to transfer dyed fabric between tubs.
• Follow all safety standards and ensure team compliance.
• Communicate job expectations, monitor and appraise job results, and coach or discipline employees as needed.
• Drive continuous improvement by eliminating waste in safety, quality, cost, and machine efficiency.
• Maintain workflow by monitoring processes, setting variables, and observing control points and equipment.
• Complete production plans on time by scheduling personnel, establishing priorities, and resolving problems.
• Collaborate with the Launch/Product Engineering team to meet internal and external customer requirements.
• Control product changes through the engineering change process or deviation.
• Maintain quality by enforcing organizational standards and stopping processing if material quality is substandard.
• Teach and enforce Stop-Call-Wait protocols.
• Ensure equipment operation by calling for repairs and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Compile and analyze production performance records to provide manufacturing information.
• Create or revise systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices and implementing changes.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating personnel on control points, equipment, and compliance.
• Participate in safety programs, including risk assessments, audits, and accident/incident investigations.
• Manage production personnel, schedules, and communicate updates to supporting teams (QC, Mechanical Support, Purchasing).
• Drive Kaizens and support department Six Sigma/Lean initiatives.
• Understand and adhere to dyeing specifications and product boundaries for finishing equipment.
• Maintain accurate, legible audit data and complete forms according to procedures.
• Segregate non-conforming product and report deviations to the Senior Quality/Process Engineer and Department Manager.
• Organize and direct strike-offs and manage Carton Req(s).
• Perform additional ad-hoc duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, with six months to one year of position-related experience or equivalent education and experience.
• Skilled knowledge or direct experience in Dye and/or Finishing processes is a plus.
• Understanding of textile manufacturing methods and defects.
• Problem-solving skills with in-depth knowledge of 8D and Practical Problem Solving (PPS).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and basic computer skills.
• Understanding of Lean improvement methods (Standardized work, 5S, SMED, 7 forms of waste, visual management, Andon).
• Familiarity with AIAG tools (APQP, PFMEA/CP, SPC).
• Ability to read, write, and speak English to interpret specifications, safety rules, operating instructions, and reports.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and management.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate as a team player.
• Solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization.
• Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple rapidly changing tasks.

Physical Demands

• Frequent hand, finger, and wrist movement to handle objects, tools, or controls.
• Standing (100%) and walking (10%).
• Frequent talking, listening, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Occasional climbing or balancing.
• Constantly lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions
