About the Role

Provides comprehensive psychological services to youths and families, including assessments, evaluations, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and consultation with staff and courts to assist in decision-making and disposition planning regarding youth and family dynamics. Supervises interns.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy services to youth supervised by the Dallas County Juvenile Department.
  • Complete psychological assessments, psychological screens, addendums, family assessments, and sex offender assessments as needed, submitting them for supervision within 24 to 48 hours of completion.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with psychology staff to aid in the effective provision of clinical services.
  • Conduct on-call emergency services as indicated on the yearly schedule and provide on-site stabilization of youth experiencing a mental-health crisis.
  • Serve as a consultant to administration, probation officers, court personnel, education department, attorneys, and institution professionals.
  • Provide clinical opinion on the Case Planning and Review Committee (CPRC) to aid in developing recommendations for youth.
  • Provide courtroom testimony as requested by officers of the court.
  • Obtain yearly professional development to maintain professional relevancy and licensure.
  • Complete requirements for independent licensure as an LPC, LPA, or LCSW within 3 years of employment.
  • Perform other duties in the Psychology Division as directed by the Clinical Director or Assistant Clinical Director or Supervisor.

Clinician II – Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a coordinator/lead of a sub-unit within the psychology division, including program development/maintenance, statistical data reporting, and representing the sub-unit in communications.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with other sub-unit supervisors and the Chief of Psychology.
  • Act as lead or consultant to other psychology staff as needed.

Requirements

Education, Experience, and Training

  • Clinician I (minimum salary):
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology or a related field.
    • Minimum one (1) year pre-/post-graduate level supervised experience providing psychological services, including psychotherapeutic services (may be obtained during practicum).
    • Provisional license OR position may be underfilled until provisional license (passed test) is obtained, not to exceed three (3) years from date of hire.
    • Training and experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological assessments is strongly preferred.
  • Clinician II (maximum in-hire salary):
    • Minimum three (3) years post-graduate level supervised clinical experience.
    • Independently licensed in Texas as an LPC, LPA, LMFT, LMSW, or LCSW.

Special Requirements, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and establish/maintain working relationships with employees, departments, and the public.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation and mandatory pre-employment drug testing; subject to random, unannounced drug/alcohol testing during employment.
  • High tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful environment with juveniles who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Standard office environment with visits to various off-site locations.
  • May be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on departmental needs.
  • Subject to mandatory overtime or "double shifts" in a 24-hour facility.
  • May be considered "essential personnel," subject to being held over or called back to work at any time.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (for applicable positions) and pass all portions of the Juvenile Academy or standards related to PREA and Ethics.
