Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care for patients under minimal supervision, adhering to national and company standards and specialty regulations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental differences across patient populations, including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient and family needs.
• Support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards.
• Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history; collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.
• Review and report health status assessments, physical examinations, laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments to providers.
• Assess patient and family needs; provide teaching and instructional materials.
• Provide psychosocial support to patients and families while maintaining confidentiality.
• Facilitate clinical operations and patient care, including managing medication refill requests, assisting physicians with exams and procedures, and coordinating consultations, tests, referrals, and appointments.
• Triage patient phone calls and document relevant information in patient charts.
• Facilitate communication between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team; coordinate related services.
• Assist patients in locating community resources.
• Collaborate with the clinical research team as needed.
• Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants; provide nursing coverage for satellite offices.
• Serve as a mentor or preceptor and guide less experienced nurses.
• Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing education.
• Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited professional nursing education program; BSN preferred.
• Active RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Maintain continuing education requirements.
• Five (5) years of nursing experience.
• At least one (1) year of oncology experience.
• Oncology certification preferred.

Working Conditions

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.

Physical Requirements

• Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Pay

$40–$60 per hour.
