Zookeeper - Birds and Small Mammals

Position Overview

The City of Waco seeks a dedicated bird and small mammal keeper at the Cameron Park Zoo. This position assists in the day-to-day husbandry for a large and diverse collection of native and exotic birds and mammals.

Essential Functions

• Assists with the daily care, husbandry, and nutrition of assigned animals
• Resolves problems within scope of authority
• Maintains Zoo exhibits, identifies animal care issues, prepares, and distributes diets and supplements
• Maintains records; examines exhibit facilities and grounds to assure proper maintenance procedures are followed
• Assists with public education, community outreach and safety and security programs
• Operates City vehicles to safely transport animals (locally and long distance), pick up supplies, and move equipment to and from service locations in support of daily operations
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Zoology, Biological Sciences, or a related field
• 1 year of animal care work experience
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid Texas Driver's License

Salary

Minimum Starting Salary: $18.4349 per hour
