Zoning Administrator

About the role

The Town of Hartford, VT is seeking a highly skilled professional to serve as the Zoning Administrative Officer (ZA). The ZA is the principal municipal official responsible for interpreting, administering, and enforcing Hartford’s Land Use Regulations including the Zoning Regulations, Subdivision Regulations, Special Flood Hazard Area Regulations, and the Sign Ordinance, as governed under 24 V.S.A. Chapter 117 and applicable State land use laws. The ZA is the primary point of contact for people seeking permits for land development, staffs the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Design Review Committee, and reports to the Director of the Department of Planning and Development.

Responsibilities

• Interpret, administer, and enforce Hartford’s Land Use Regulations (zoning, subdivision, special flood hazard area, sign ordinance)
• Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking permits for land development
• Staff the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Design Review Committee
• Report to the Director of the Department of Planning and Development

Qualifications

• Four‑year degree in urban planning, public administration, civil engineering, law, or other related discipline from an accredited college or university
• Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of three years of related experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of land use regulation (or an equivalent combination of work and education)

Pay

Pay range is $33.02 to $46.21 per hour.
