Responsibilities

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to the position.
  • Report all serious incidents and daily activities to the Shelter Manager.
  • Assist with the development of shift schedules and staff assignments to ensure safety.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and delegate daily facility operations tasks throughout the shift.
  • Know procedures for and monitor proper dispensing of non-prescription medications when medical staff are not on duty.
  • Supervise general interaction of the service population, promoting positive engagement and responsibility.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise activities for children in accordance with the daily activity schedule.
  • Identify routine maintenance work/repair and report it to the Shelter Manager.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, in-service training, and team decisions.
  • Assist in household laundry, routine cleaning of bedrooms, and living areas.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of records regarding clothing and personal items.
  • Assume responsibility for scheduling air and ground transportation of the service population when needed.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Implement safety protocols, including evacuating with children and staff in emergencies.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards of conduct, including respect for staff, children, and community members, and comply with dress code.
  • Supervise unit managers, provide constructive feedback, and solicit ideas from supervised staff.
  • Mentor and assist new hires and coworkers during training.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Frequently move between areas of the physical plant.
  • Meet all deadlines required by program supervisors and federal partners.
  • Provide crisis intervention to maintain a safe environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate degree or two years of college-level coursework in a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of related experience and/or training (required); two or more years (preferred).
  • Certifications: First aid, CPR, and Emergency behavior intervention.
  • Pass pre-employment and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Demonstrate ability to:
    • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
    • Work collaboratively with staff, service providers, and professionals.
    • Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control and professional composure.
    • Maintain computer literacy required for the position.
    • Work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team without intensive supervision.
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures.
