About the role
During this four-year training program, you will develop into a specialist hospital pharmacist following the ELOZ model of the Dutch Association of Hospital Pharmacists (NVZA). The training takes place within the OOR Leiden, a collaboration between LUMC, HagaZiekenhuis, and HMC. You will work for three years at your entry hospital and one year at one of the other two hospitals, gaining experience in different work environments and all aspects of hospital pharmacy.
- Provide specialized pharmaceutical patient care and collaborate with hospital pharmacists, medical specialists, and physician assistants.
- Gain knowledge and experience in drug logistics, pharmaceutical preparations, and laboratory research.
- Conduct scientific research within one of the focus areas of the participating hospitals.
- Supervise students and contribute to education.
Where you will work
Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC)
The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology at LUMC practices all aspects of hospital pharmacy at an academic level. The department aims to be a creative, inspiring, and safe workplace, featuring three GMP-certified production units and a GMP and ISO15189-certified laboratory for quality control, bioanalysis, and pharmacogenetics. Specialized pharmaceutical patient care is provided in close collaboration with the integrated outpatient pharmacy and clinical departments. High-quality research is conducted in Personalized Medicine, Academic Pharma, and Real World Data. The department is also heavily involved in the Master of Pharmacy program in Leiden.
HagaZiekenhuis
HagaZiekenhuis is a top clinical teaching hospital providing specialized care to residents of The Hague, Zoetermeer, and surrounding areas. It emphasizes education, science, research, and innovation. The hospital includes a heart center, a hematology center, and the Juliana Children’s Hospital, along with a busy emergency department offering 24/7 acute and trauma care. HagaZiekenhuis has several top clinical care functions, such as multiple myeloma, cystic fibrosis, and systemic diseases. The hospital pharmacy participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and focuses on integrated pharmaceutical care, collaborating closely with Apotheek Haagse Ziekenhuizen (AHZ) in production, drug logistics, and TDM/toxicology.
Haaglanden Medisch Centrum (HMC)
HMC comprises three locations: HMC Antoniushove, HMC Bronovo, and HMC Westeinde. It is a top clinical hospital with a focus on highly complex acute care (Trauma Center), oncology (Cancer Center), and neurology (Neuro Center). HMC is undergoing significant renovation and rebuilding in the coming years, bringing specialized pharmaceutical care closer to patients. The hospital also collaborates closely with AHZ.
Requirements
You have a broad interest in hospital pharmacy, approach new challenges with curiosity, and take initiative in your development. In collaboration, you actively listen, communicate clearly, and coordinate carefully with colleagues, medical specialists, physician assistants, and other stakeholders. Even under pressure, you maintain an overview and reflect on your own actions.
- Completed education as a pharmacist.
- Preferably one to two years of relevant work experience in a hospital pharmacy.
- Adequate proficiency in the Dutch language to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

Schedule and Employment Details
You will start with a full-time appointment for one year. After a positive evaluation in the first year, you will be appointed for the duration of the training program (total of 4 years). Your training will begin at LUMC and HagaZiekenhuis. Employment conditions are in accordance with the CAO UMC (LUMC) and CAO Ziekenhuizen (HagaZiekenhuis).
