YouTube Long-Form Editor
About the role
The YouTube Long-Form Editor owns the end‑to‑end edit pipeline for two channels in The Scalable Company's orbit: Roland Frasier (partner) and Ryan Deiss (CEO). Each channel requires 3‑4 long‑form videos per month, each about 30 minutes of finished content (6‑8 hours total). You will turn raw camera files into tightly paced, high‑retention videos with clean audio, deliberate B‑roll, and a clear narrative structure. Until now these channels have been edited by an outside agency, so you will build the in‑house edit workflow from scratch — templates, asset libraries, project organization, revision loops, feedback systems, and archiving — working alongside the Senior Content Strategist. Success is measured by on‑time publish cadence, audience retention, revision efficiency, the quality of each cut, and the durability of the workflows you create.
Responsibilities
- Own the long‑form edit pipeline across both channels: take raw footage to publish‑ready cut for 3‑4 Roland Frasier videos per month (≈30 min each) and 3‑4 Ryan Deiss videos per month (≈30 min each).
- Build the foundational in‑house edit workflow from scratch — templates, asset organization, revision loops, feedback systems, project archiving — and document it by month 3 so a future team member can plug in with ≤2 weeks ramp‑up.
- Develop and refine each channel’s edit signature (pacing, B‑roll usage, music/SFX choices, lower‑thirds, transitions) to reflect Roland’s and Ryan’s distinct voices.
- Manage project files, asset libraries, and version control in Frame.io and Adobe Premiere, keeping projects organized, archives clean, and revisions clearly tracked.
- Direct creative decisions on cuts, pacing, and structure; bring the Senior Content Strategist a draft ready for evaluation, not a rough assembly.
- Iterate fast on revision feedback, targeting ≤2 revision rounds per video by asking clarifying questions upfront and shipping the next version quickly.
- Monitor YouTube Studio analytics — pull retention curves on every published video and adjust future edits based on audience drop‑off points.
- Proactively flag issues in raw footage before investing edit time, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Requirements
- 3+ years of full‑time experience editing long‑form YouTube content (15+ minute videos), with a portfolio of at least 5 published long‑form edits where you were the primary editor.
- Comfortable building systems from scratch — you have been the first editor at a place or have built your own pipeline in a freelance/agency‑spinoff context.
- Strong motion graphics and animation proficiency — every video requires polished animated B‑roll, kinetic typography, data visualizations, and motion design that elevates storytelling.
- Expert‑level Davinci Resolve Studio or Adobe Premiere Pro proficiency (multicam, nested sequences, audio mixing, color correction, proxy workflows).
- Strong audio engineering instincts — skilled in EQ, compression, and noise reduction to make dialogue sound clean without over‑processing.
- Demonstrated storytelling instinct — portfolio shows understanding of pacing, narrative structure, and retaining viewers past the 3‑minute mark.
- Frame.io (or equivalent review tool) proficiency — able to organize assets, run clean revision loops, and maintain sane version history.
- Self‑managing on deadlines — you can read the publish calendar, back‑time the work, and deliver without a project manager.
- AI fluency — daily use of AI tools (Opus 5.5 for Motion Graphics, Premiere AI features, transcription, B‑roll search, etc.) to accelerate workflow.
- A workstation capable of editing 4K ProRes footage without performance issues (software, plugins, and asset libraries provided by the company).
- Strong written communication — able to give and receive feedback in writing, ask clarifying questions, and avoid drama.
