The full salary range represents potential earnings over time, while the anticipated hiring range is the range within which the City expects to make an offer. The actual offer will be based on relevant experience, education, certifications, and other factors.

Pay

Full Salary Range: $15.16–$21.75 hourly
Anticipated Hiring Range: $15.16–$18.46 hourly

About the Role

The Youth Sports Official – Flag Football position is an integral part of the City of Greeley’s Recreation Division. Officials are responsible for officiating events for all levels of competition and providing a fun, safe environment for youth of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Officiate youth sports games (flag football) according to established league rules and age-level modifications.
• Monitor player behavior and safety during games.
• Start and stop play, make calls on fouls, violations, or rule infractions.
• Communicate game decisions clearly to players, coaches, and spectators.
• Promote positive sportsmanship, fair play, and learning for all participants.
• Set up and inspect field or court equipment before games; report unsafe conditions.
• Keep basic score or game records when needed.
• Address disputes calmly and refer issues to a supervisor when appropriate.
• Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
• Understand how the game is played and apply proper officiating principles and techniques.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and act quickly in emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Zero to one (0-1) year of officiating and/or playing experience.
• Zero to one (0-1) year of customer service experience.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that enable successful performance of the essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience playing or officiating youth sports.
• Prior customer service experience.
• Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and the public.

Skills

• Basic knowledge of sport-specific rules and youth modifications.
• Ability to remain impartial, confident, and assertive while officiating.
• Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work with children and manage groups in a fast-paced environment.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional demeanor.

Schedule

Workdays may extend from early morning to late evening, as well as weekends and holidays, as needed.

Work Environment

• Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact.
• Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in adverse weather, extreme heat, loud noises, dust, fumes, or chemicals.
• Occasional local travel within the county.

Physical Requirements

• Vision sufficient to perform physical activities, read documents, and use computers.
• Strength and stamina to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and run for extended periods.
