Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Youth Sports & Camp, the Youth Sports & Camp Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, operation, development, and implementation of dynamic out of school time sports and camp programs for youths at the Presidio YMCA.

Job Responsibilities

  • Program Planning & Implementation
    • Develop and implement a goal-driven work plan and annual action plan with program activities and deadlines.
    • Plan and implement summer day camp programming, including structured activities, snack and lunch times, and enrichment opportunities.
    • Organize and lead after-school youth sports and camp programs.
    • Ensure program environments are welcoming, accessible, and inclusive.
    • Identify and remove barriers to participation.
  • Staff Management & Training
    • Assist with hiring, supervising, and training youth sports and camp staff and volunteers.
    • Engage and support volunteers.
    • Cookordination staffing for programs and provide direct service as needed.
    • Provide ongoing training and support for program staff, including:
      • Holding regular staff meetings.
      • Developing and implementing training sessions.
      • Observing staff during activities.
      • Offering feedback and guidance.
      • Ensuring completion of required training.
      • Conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Community Engagement & Outreach
    • Recruit and retain youth participants through outreach efforts, including:
      • Creating and distributing promotional materials.
      • Building relationships with families and community leaders.
      • Collecting and organizing registration paperwork.
      • Maintaining participant records in the database.
      • Develop partnerships with schools, administrators, counselors, teachers, and community organizations.
  • Youth Support & Safety
    • Monitor participants and provide behavioral support using proactive strategies.
    • Facilitate restorative practices and de-escalation techniques as needed.
    • Ensure equipment and supplies are available, safe, and appropriate for participants.
    • Maintain high standards of leadership, enthusiasm, creativity, and respect for participants, families, and staff.
  • Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities
    • Complete administrative tasks related to program operations.
    • Communicate with parents and caregivers as needed, ensuring prompt responses to inquiries.
    • Address concerns or complaints and escalate issues to supervisors when necessary.
    • Ensure compliance with safety, supervision, risk management, and mandatory reporting policies.
    • Attend required staff meetings and professional development training.
    • Complete all mandatory safety training and certifications before the first shift.
    • Maintain professional conduct and work ethic.
  • Health & Safety Protocols
    • Follow hygiene and sanitation guidelines, including frequent handwashing.
    • Adhere to YMCA safety policies and procedures.
  • Leadership & Professional Growth
    • Demonstrate YMCA leadership values, including mission advancement, relationship-building, operational effectiveness, and staff development.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    The work environment for this role is active and dynamic, requiring both indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions. Staff must engage with youth in recreational, educational, and physical activities, which may involve prolonged standing, walking, running, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 25 pounds. The role also requires strong visual and auditory awareness to ensure participant’s safety and effective supervision. Team members must be adaptable to a fast-paced setting, maintain a positive and energetic demeanor, and be prepared to handle occasional behavioral challenges using appropriate intervention strategies. Compliance with all safety protocols, including hygiene and risk management procedures, is essential.

    Salary Description

    The hourly rate for this position ranges from $26 to $29.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, and is aligned with current salary benchmarking standards. Compensation is contingent upon program budget availability.
