Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) is the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, serving 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. About the role

The Youth Program Leader leads a classroom to deliver safe and effective learning environments for students through teaching, facilitation, and coordination. This role offers professional development and personal growth opportunities while working with TK-8 students. The position reports to the Associate Site Director and requires availability to work 5 days a week during the school year at one of our Daly City, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Mateo, or South San Francisco sites.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a classroom of approximately 10-20 students per staff
  • Provide academic mentoring and homework assistance
  • Lead students through academic activities
  • Adapt lesson plans for delivering enrichment classes and clubs (art, cooking, STEM, fitness, etc.)
  • Conduct life skills and team-building activities
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and BGCP leadership
  • Engage in weekly check-ins and participate in staff meetings
  • Maintain a positive, safe, productive work environment
  • Support special events and field trips
  • Attend training and professional development opportunities

Requirements

  • Commitment to BGCP’s mission and vision and working with TK-8 youth
  • Experience building relationships with diverse youth communities and constituents
  • Ability to motivate through positive reinforcement
  • Strong communication skills
  • Flexibility in navigating a fast-paced environment
  • Preferred one year of experience working with TK-8 youth
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Spanish fluency is required

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting and 80% walking & standing. The work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Onboarding and Training

  • Onboarding Dates (must attend one):
    • July 29th or July 30th (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) at Menlo Park Clubhouse (401 Pierce Rd, Menlo Park, CA 94025)
    • July 23rd (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) at Orange Avenue Clubhouse (840 W Orange Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080)
  • BE GREAT Training: Monday, August 3rd - Friday, August 7th (9:00 am - 5:00 pm) at Cañada College (4200 Farm Hill Blvd, Redwood City, CA 94061)

Schedule

  • 24-29 hours per week
  • Five days a week, Monday through Friday
  • Hours vary by site: Generally, 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm (Exception: Wednesday 12:00 pm to 6:30 pm)
  • Starting time for TK/K may be earlier
  • Weekly team meeting + additional professional development trainings

Pay

  • Part-Time, Hourly
  • Pay Range: $22.00-25.00 per hour, depending on experience

As part of the hiring process, candidates must complete LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
