Youth Mentor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill sessions focused on public speaking, sustained attention, teamwork, and feedback skills, adjusting your delivery and energy for Pre-K through 8th grade learners
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations where you examine each student's adaptive learning app data (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and ensure they achieve 100% of their weekly benchmarks
- Overseeing and scoring Test2Pass evaluations to verify genuine mastery of each life skill, rather than simple attendance
- Implementing focused interventions when a student's academic progress or engagement declines—identifying underlying issues and creating a path forward
- Cultivating authentic connections with every student so they develop sufficient trust to receive coaching during moments of resistance, distraction, and uncertainty
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Providing traditional academic lectures or direct subject instruction (students master core content through adaptive applications, not instructor-led lessons)
- Developing original lesson plans or designing curriculum (Alpha supplies structured life skills playbooks; your responsibility is executing them with compelling energy and narrative)
- Handling parent communication or administrative tasks (Campus Leads manage these areas; your focus remains on student development)
- Handling homework assignments or preparing students for standardized testing (these elements do not exist in this model)
- Operating independently without collaboration (you join a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who provide mutual feedback and accountability)
About the Role
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full day's worth of academics in approximately two hours using adaptive software. No traditional lectures. No printed textbooks. Your role centers on what technology cannot replicate: developing life skills in Pre-K through 8th grade students—skills like public speaking, sustained attention, and constructive feedback exchange.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3+ years of direct experience with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management roles)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, athletic, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your actions, and the result)
- Comfort with a coaching-focused model where academic content delivery is fully managed by the learning platform. Your function is motivation and guidance, not core subject instruction
- Regular use of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Able to work on-site at Alpha's Springfield, MA campus (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp facilitation, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for driving children toward concrete goals
- History of significant personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive sports participation, or leadership positions requiring consistent excellence)
- Instinctive storytelling skills: you can maintain the attention of Pre-K–8 students for an hour without volume escalation
- Success engaging disengaged or reluctant students and converting them into active contributors
- Experience supporting students who receive special education services
