Youth Mentor-2nd Shift

Community Partners in Action (CPA) is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the country, championing criminal justice reform and advocating for the dignity of those in and out of prison. Through programs that include reentry and housing, youth initiatives, a nationally recognized Prison Arts Program, and holistic alternatives to incarceration, CPA provides long-term impact that positively transforms individuals and society. Annually serving over 4,000 individuals throughout Connecticut, CPA is guided by its BEDI (Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) culture.

About the role

The REGIONS Staff Secure Program is a residential treatment program for up to 8 male youth. The mission is to provide a home-like environment with a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, gender-specific, linguistically appropriate, strengths-based, and relationship-driven milieu to help youth improve their social, physical, and emotional well-being. The vision is to therapeutically intervene in the cycle of offending to reduce risk factors and prevent transition into the adult justice system. Youth in this program may have a high violence risk but it is not likely to be chronic or have later onset, and they are amenable to treatment.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentorship and support to male youth in a residential treatment setting.
• Implement trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and gender-specific care.
• Assist youth in developing positive self-image, coping skills, and behavioral changes.
• Transport clients to appointments and into the community.
• Engage in crisis management and decision-making in a multi-cultural environment.
• Support youth in re-entering their communities better equipped to succeed.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or higher; associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a related internship may substitute for experience.
• Experience working with at-risk or court-involved adolescents and in residential treatment programs.
• Understanding of gender-specific, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and linguistically appropriate care.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, emotional intelligence, and crisis management skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with a multi-cultural population.
• Belief in the capacity for change and commitment to providing quality services.
• Valid CT driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to transport clients.
• Capacity to become medication and SCM (Safe Crisis Management) certified.

Pay

$23.97 per hour.

2nd Shift: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM.
