About the role
The Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Flag Football officials and coaches for their upcoming Youth Sports programs and leagues. Coaches teach fundamental sports skills, while officials ensure fair play and maintain a safe environment.
Responsibilities
- Create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants
- Serve as a role model and mentor for young athletes
- Communicate clearly and professionally with players, parents/guardians, and staff
- Ensure all players understand they are safe, valued, supported, and connected to the team
- Facilitate games while consistently applying the rules, promoting fair play, and demonstrating courtesy, self-control, integrity, and impartiality
- Provide a fun and positive recreational sports experience encompassing a "Love of the Game" philosophy
Requirements
- Passion and/or experience in working with youth
- Organizational skills to effectively communicate with players, parents, co-workers, the Coordinator, and the Supervisor
- Ability to provide a fun and positive recreational sports experience
- Attend mandatory trainings including Human Resources Orientation, Youth Sports Orientation, and Required Certifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience coaching or officiating youth sports
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Skills
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm for youth sports
- Ability to enforce rules and promote fair play
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, typically Monday through Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Benefits
- Seasonal pay rate of $16.90 - $17.00 per hour
- Accrued 40 hours of sick leave per year, with unused hours rolling over up to a cap of 80 hours on January 1st

Schedule
Hours available: Mondays - Thursdays, 4:00 PM - 8:30 PM
