About the role
The role involves providing direction for the afterschool program, overseeing its daily operations, and implementing YMCA-approved curriculum. The position also entails ensuring the safety and well-being of children, managing site operations, and engaging with parents and the community.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated Texas Childcare Licensing Site Director, ensuring compliance with YMCA Houston and state regulations.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children through structured and unstructured activities.
- Oversee the daily operations of the afterschool program, including site management, supervision, and behavior management.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and address behavioral issues in a calm and constructive manner.
- Ensure compliance with YMCA and state licensing requirements, conduct safety drills, and follow organizational policies.
- Communicate regularly with parents and address their inquiries and concerns.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, evaluate program effectiveness, and make adjustments as necessary.
- Develop and execute strategies for program growth and retention, and monitor and analyze enrollment trends.
- Lead the Youth Program Quality (YPQ) intervention process and use continuous program monitors to evaluate youth participation and program effectiveness.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 70 clock hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership, or management.
- Two (2) college courses equivalent to 100 clock hours.
- A minimum Standard #744.1017.
- One (1) year of experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school, or equivalent.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience supervising others preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with demonstrated interest in the welfare of children.
- Prior childcare or baby-sitting experience is preferred.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
