Youth Development Site Lead - Massey Ranch Elementary
About the role
The role involves providing direction for the afterschool program, overseeing its daily operations, and implementing YMCA-approved curriculum. The position also entails ensuring the safety and well-being of children, managing site operations, and engaging with parents and the community.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated Texas Childcare Licensing Site Director, ensuring compliance with all YMCA Houston and state regulations and standards.
- Oversee the daily operations of the afterschool program, maintaining a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children.
- Maintain the program site and equipment, assist with setup and breakdown of activity centers, and clean the program area.
- Ensure the safety and security of all children and staff at the site, monitor children’s activities, and address behavioral issues in a calm and constructive manner.
- Conduct regular headcounts and maintain accurate attendance records, respond to emergencies and incidents, and follow established YMCA policies.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques, adapt activities to meet diverse needs, and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Communicate regularly with parents, address inquiries and concerns, and follow organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate enrollment and attendance records, develop and implement strategies for program growth and retention, and monitor and analyze enrollment trends.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, lead Youth Program Quality (YPQ) interventions, and adhere to YMCA program models and quality standards.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors, follow mandated abuse reporting requirements, and ensure proper supervision and safety measures.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 70 clock hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership or management.
- Two (2) college courses equivalent to 100 clock hours.
- Minimum Standard #744.1017.
- At least 1 year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school or equivalent.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations and supervising others preferred.
- Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required by the local or State Department of Health.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior childcare or baby-sitting experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in the welfare of children.
- Two (2) college courses equivalent to 100 clock hours.
- Minimum Standard #744.1017.
- At least 1 year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school or equivalent.

Schedule
Before/After School: Part-time, typically Monday-Friday, morning shift 6:30 am – 8:30 am, afternoon shift 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm (start and end time may vary). Program runs concurrently with ISD calendar. May be required to work Saturday's occasionally. Camp: Typically Monday-Friday, 6:30 am – 6:30 pm with a morning, afternoon and evening shift option (start and end time may vary). Camps run concurrently with ISD calendar breaks. Position will default to a Youth Development Counselor during Camp Seasons unless the employee applies for an alternative position. May be required to work Saturday's occasionally.
Must be available to attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings. Details will be provided in advance.
