About the role
The role involves providing direction for the afterschool program, overseeing its daily operations, and implementing YMCA-approved curriculum. The position also entails ensuring the safety and well-being of children, managing site operations, and engaging with parents and the community.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated Texas Childcare Licensing Site Director, ensuring compliance with YMCA Houston and state regulations.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children through structured and unstructured activities.
- Oversee the daily operations of the afterschool program, including site management and supervision of children.
- Ensure the safety and security of children and staff, monitor their activities, and address behavioral issues.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and follow established guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety drills and inspections to ensure compliance with licensing requirements and organizational policies.
- Communicate regularly with parents, address their inquiries and concerns, and report any issues to the Program Director.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, encourage positive social interactions, and adapt activities to meet diverse needs.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and make adjustments as necessary.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote program growth and increase enrollment, and create retention plans to ensure high levels of participant satisfaction.
- Lead the Youth Program Quality (YPQ) intervention process and use continuous program monitors to evaluate youth participation and the effectiveness of the program.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 70 clock hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership or management.
- Two (2) college courses equivalent to 100 clock hours.
- Minimum Standard #744.1017.
- One year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school, or equivalent.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience supervising others preferred.
- Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required by the local or State Department of Health.
- Pass a local/state background and FBI fingerprinting check.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Prior childcare or baby-sitting experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in the welfare of children.
- Two (2) college courses equivalent to 100 clock hours.
- Minimum Standard #744.1017.
- One year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school, or equivalent.
