Job Summary

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising programs and activities for youth ages 6–18 in a safe, fun, and engaging environment. The YDP promotes positive youth development and helps members build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement age-appropriate programs in one or more core program areas (e.g., Education, Arts, Sports, STEM, Leadership).
  • Engage members in daily activities that promote a positive Club climate and support the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission.
  • Provide guidance and discipline to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and participation.
  • Establish rapport with youth and serve as a role model and mentor.
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, incidents, and program outcomes.
  • Support special events, field trips, and Club-wide initiatives as needed.
  • Auxiliary in maintaining a clean and organized program space.
  • Communicate with parents, school staff, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Comply with all BGCCNM and ECECD Safety Policies and Regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred (especially in education, child development, social work, or related fields)
  • Experience working with youth (after-school programs, summer camps, tutoring, coaching, etc.)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional, positive attitude and lead by example
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet organizational and state requirements

Work Environment

  • Active indoor and outdoor environment
  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Must be available for before and after-school hours depending on site hours and some weekends or evenings
