Job Summary
The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising programs and activities for youth ages 6–18 in a safe, fun, and engaging environment. The YDP promotes positive youth development and helps members build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement age-appropriate programs in one or more core program areas (e.g., Education, Arts, Sports, STEM, Leadership).
- Engage members in daily activities that promote a positive Club climate and support the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission.
- Provide guidance and discipline to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and participation.
- Establish rapport with youth and serve as a role model and mentor.
- Maintain accurate records including attendance, incidents, and program outcomes.
- Support special events, field trips, and Club-wide initiatives as needed.
- Auxiliary in maintaining a clean and organized program space.
- Communicate with parents, school staff, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Comply with all BGCCNM and ECECD Safety Policies and Regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred (especially in education, child development, social work, or related fields)
- Experience working with youth (after-school programs, summer camps, tutoring, coaching, etc.)
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain a professional, positive attitude and lead by example
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass background checks and meet organizational and state requirements
Work Environment
- Active indoor and outdoor environment
- May require lifting up to 25 lbs
- Must be available for before and after-school hours depending on site hours and some weekends or evenings
