YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROFESIONAL- Riley Elementary

About the role

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is a part-time, hourly position that works with our youth to deliver "hands-on" in-house programming including social recreation, team-building activities, and an environment to build positive relationships.

Primary Function

Under the supervision of the Assistant Club Director, a YDP is responsible for assisting with the development and operation of our after-school program. They are also responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for members and aligning new members to program areas, special events, and opportunities. The YDP provides support in their assigned program area by monitoring member behavior, providing instruction, and engaging with members and parents.

Key Roles

• Build meaningful relationships with members
• Deliver age-appropriate programs and activities, reflecting Boys & Girls Club's five core program areas, for children ages 6 – 18
• Ensure safe implementation of all programs and activities
• Orient new members to program area, special events, and opportunities as well as club safety, program, and disciplinary rules
• Implement, monitor, and evaluate programs, services, and activities for members
• Maintain a positive Boys & Girls Club culture, with high energy, strong teamwork, and effective collaboration with other staff
• Promote daily learning center program participation, as well as participation in special events
• Maintain productive relationships with parents, school faculty and administrators, and staff, and other visitors to the Club
• Assist the Program Director in all phases of the overall Club operation
• Membership administration and program registration
• Other duties as assigned by the Club Director

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 18 years old
• Pass a background check
• Able to work with youth (over 18) and teens (over 21)
• At least one year experience working with children
• Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to a minimum of 6 months where there is experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development, and formal training, and/or experience teaching youth while creating engaging learning experiences
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
• Ability to de-escalate problems when present, as well as problem-solve during day-to-day-club activities
• Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth
• Ability to control and manage a group of children through different activities
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications (available for staff upon being hired)

• Previous experience as Youth Development Professional
