About the role

The Youth Development Counselor (YDC) is responsible for conducting youth development activities in our residential group homes. Key responsibilities include constant supervision, care, and protection of youth, helping them develop various life skills, and implementing activities. The role also involves collaborating with the treatment team, demonstrating trauma-informed practices, and managing agency vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Constant supervision, protection, and care of youth, individually and in groups, ensuring safety within a trauma-informed framework.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to help youth develop various skills including social, vocational, educational, hygiene, and other skills.
  • Develop and implement various activities for the youth.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and practice of relationship-based treatment, strength-based, Trauma-informed, and culturally/LGBTQ-sensitive approaches in working with youth.
  • Administer appropriate and effective interventions and set limits for behavior per agency policy.
  • Participate in and/or conduct cottage group meetings, and document meeting content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with adolescents in a residential treatment facility.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Good driving record and valid California Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Must have relevant professional and lived experience to support effective service delivery to children and families.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Experience with youth development activities.

Pay and Schedule

The final compensation offered will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. Pay range: $17.68 - $24.21 per hour.
