About the Role

The Youth Counselor is the treatment team member responsible for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of adolescents through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Program Director, Facility Manager, and Shift Lead; some tasks are accomplished independently.

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, ensure safety, and care for children individually, in school, and in groups.
  • Promote and assist adolescents with self-help skills in eating, hygiene, grooming, handling individual problems, and other activities.
  • Model and support positive youth development and positive behavioral self-management through praise, attention, and use of a behavioral incentive system.
  • Encourage adolescents’ interaction and socialization with peers, providing feedback on appropriate behavior.
  • Participate in Pro-Act crisis intervention as required.
  • Note children’s progress in daily progress notes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus one (1) year of experience with seriously emotionally disturbed children, or two (2) years’ experience with seriously emotionally disturbed adults.
  • BA/BS Degree (alternative qualification).

Division & Program Overview

Population Served: A comprehensive mental health inpatient residential facility for adolescents; statewide service for up to 60 adolescents (ages 12–17) experiencing severe mental health challenges.

Facility & Setting: 24/7 locked, highly secure inpatient residential campus operating with the highest standards of dignity and care since 1988.

Programs: Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), Community Treatment Facility (CTF), and an on-site Non-Public High School (SBHS).

Clinical Services: Multidisciplinary mental health services, Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), and Intensive Day Treatment Program.

Pay

Starting compensation: $25.00 - $26.50 USD per hour.

Schedule

Friday - Monday, 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
