Young Adult Peer Navigator

About the role

The Young Adult Peer Navigator provides assistance to young adults (up to age 26) in Chittenden County, focusing on participants in Spectrum’s Youth in Transition (YIT) Program, Multicultural Youth Program (MYP), and Youth Action Board (YAB). The role involves connecting young adults to community services and resources, ensuring they have the support needed to engage productively in the community. The Peer Navigator should be of peer age or close to the age of the population served.

Responsibilities

• Provide outreach to transition-age young adults, including multicultural youth, refugees, immigrants, and asylees, offering information, resources, and support through transitions.
• Collaborate with the MYP Program and YIT Leadership Team to identify community resources and provide necessary support and services.
• Organize, facilitate, and support the Agency’s Youth Action Board.
• Use Facebook and other social networking platforms to reach out, provide support, and share information with young adults.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the ImpactVT.org website, an online resource guide for transition-age youth.
• Prepare quarterly data and detailed descriptions of activities for progress reports and participate in YIT Affiliation Meetings.
• Participate in the development of leadership training for young adults.
• Support young adult advisory groups, including Spectrum’s Youth Advisory Board.
• Create opportunities for young adults to take on leadership roles, become peer supports, and engage in healthy, pro-social activities.
• Participate in training activities and other events as requested.
• Engage in MYP Programming, including the Multicultural Help Desk in various school districts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in human services preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of issues facing the target population, such as homelessness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, mental health challenges, family conflict, physical health issues, and criminality, as well as barriers related to multicultural youth.
• Commitment to diversity with respect to gender, race, age, socio-economic level, sexual orientation, and religion.
• Ability to work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively with young adults, parents, community members, service providers, and state agency personnel.
• Experience working in a peer support capacity.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to participate in supervision, including identifying needs, seeking assistance, and accepting feedback.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to set boundaries with self and others.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Work Environment

This is a field position requiring frequent travel, including client transport. Reliable transportation and comprehensive insurance are required. The role involves sitting, standing, occasional use of stairs, and lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.

Pay

$21.63 per hour.

Schedule

Part-time, hourly position with a maximum of up to 20 hours per week. Weekly hours may vary.
