About the role

The Young Adult Access Drop-In Center serves youth aged 16-26 in need of support and resources to achieve independence and accomplish life changes. Program staff will work with youth on their goals around mental health, economic stability, housing, substance use, employment preparation, self-advocacy, parenting and pregnancy, access to entitlements, or a number of other needs or barriers to success.

Responsibilities

  • Engage young adults with mutual non-directive relationships.
  • Provide support, and empower them to achieve their goals.
  • Develop and facilitate groups in the access center.
  • Aid in connecting young adults to services, entitlements, and appropriate support networks.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • An alternative education/experience in lieu of formal education may be considered.
  • Lived experience of recovering from mental health, substance misuse, and/or traumatic life changes is required to be a peer mentor.
  • A valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Reliability, willingness to learn, and a desire to promote a better living standard for youth and young adults living with a mental illness or behavioral challenges.

Qualifications

  • Must have lived experience of recovering from mental health, substance misuse, and/or traumatic life changes to be a peer to young adults.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy.
