Yard Supervisor
About the role
Satellite Shelters, Inc., a recognized leader in mobile office and storage solutions, is seeking a motivated, hands-on Yard Supervisor to lead daily yard operations and support our Detroit-area branch (opening in early November). This role requires a proactive leader who can balance supervising yard staff with working alongside them to keep operations running efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety and accountability, and experience coordinating personnel, equipment, and yard activities in a fast-paced environment.
Position summary
- 40% – Yard Supervisor: Responsible for coordinating the everyday running of the working yard. Directs yard technicians in day-to-day scheduled activities and projects. Assigns tasks to yard technicians, field service technicians, drivers, and themselves to ensure units are repaired, prepared, and delivered in a timely manner in accord with Satellite's quality standards.
- 60% – Unit Repairs: Responsible for maintaining the fleet, monitoring units, and making repairs and modifications as needed. Inspects all units before and after they are rented to a vendor's location.
Responsibilities
Yard Supervisor Essential Duties:
- Maintains, coordinates, and monitors fleet schedule and repair
- Coordinates schedules and assigns tasks to yard personnel for cleaning, repair, delivery, maintenance, and other necessary projects and tasks
- Orders parts and supplies to ensure necessary parts are on hand
- Manages inventory per company standards
- Ensures standards for cleaning, repair, and refurbishment of each unit follow company policy
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster, aid, and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate
- Maximizes employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness
- Manages the training of all yard personnel and drivers in Satellite's safety policies and programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Unit Repairs:
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of this position
- Preparing units for rental in a timely manner according to Satellite quality standards
- Making repairs and modifications to units as required
- Maintaining proper storage of units
- Inspects all units, both incoming and outgoing
- Performs a physical write-up of the unit in detail
- Takes necessary photographs of unit as required
- Interfaces with customers at job sites
- Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory responsibilities
Under direction from the Branch Manager and/or Operations Manager, this position coordinates and leads yard personnel in daily activities of the branch.
Requirements
- High school diploma and 4+ years of related experience in areas such as construction work, commercial cleaning, maintenance, etc., or equivalent combination of work and educational experience
- Experience directing a team and directing work from a plan

Physical demands
- Position requires a high degree of concentration to manage frequent interruptions while meeting strict deadlines
- Wears personal protective equipment as required
- Demonstrated ability to perform rigorous outside and indoor duties including walking, standing, climbing, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, sitting, lifting, grasping, pushing, pulling, manual dexterity, etc.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Good fine motor skills, coordination, range of motion and grip strength
- Ability to work in all climate conditions
- Ability to be exposed to loud noise levels
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work in an environment containing dirt, grease, and dust
- Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and heavy equipment
