About the role

The Yard Supervisor supervises a large team, monitors lot inventory and infrastructure, prepares and preserves vehicles, ensures proper auction setup, and maintains vehicle and parts inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a safe work environment by ensuring all safety policies and procedures are followed and staff comply with training initiatives and deadlines
  • Foster a work environment where safety is a top priority
  • Ensure the facility is maintained in a presentable fashion for day-to-day operations
  • Monitor and train staff to ensure core duties are carried out efficiently, meeting SLA agreements and client expectations
  • Educate staff and promote vehicle enhancements (e.g., shrink wrapping, steam cleaning, detailing) to enhance vehicle value and drive profitability
  • Conduct daily yard and fence walks to maintain inventory of vehicles and parts, preventing loss (e.g., holes in fence, missing inventory, misplaced vehicles)
  • Respond to customer inquiries promptly, including missing personal belongings, vehicle damage/condition verification, and lot location of vehicles
  • Recommend or perform personnel actions such as salary increases, performance reviews, hiring, and disciplinary action
  • Apply appropriate use of security, maintenance, and safety procedures to protect Company and customer assets
  • Use personal protective equipment (e.g., safety gloves, safety glasses) as required
  • Recognize and respond to potentially unsafe situations to avoid accidents
  • Follow industry-specific regulations related to handling hazardous materials
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Basic automotive repair and general mechanical knowledge of vehicles
  • Proficiency with handheld PDA
  • Basic operation of a forklift or loader
  • Ability to interact effectively and supportively with customers and towers
  • Capable of stooping, bending, standing, and walking for reasonable periods
  • Remain alert to potential hazards associated with heavy equipment and other vehicles
  • Strong supervisory experience
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance
  • Able to communicate effectively with team and customers
  • Work both indoors and outdoors year-round, and climb on and off large equipment and trucks
