What You’ll Do
- Move trailers to and from loading docks and designated yard locations using a yard tractor.
- Back trailers accurately and safely into loading docks.
- Perform routine safety checks on yard equipment and trailers.
- Monitor refrigerated trailers to ensure proper operation and temperature control.
- Adjust refrigeration unit temperature settings and report shutdown codes or issues to supervision.
- Open, close, secure, and seal trailer doors as required.
- Maintain radio communication with shipping personnel to receive instructions on trailer movements.
- Track and maintain an accurate log of all yard moves during your shift.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and traffic rules within the yard.
- Maintain clean, orderly working conditions and promote good housekeeping habits.
- Work collaboratively with shipping, receiving, and other departments to meet operational goals.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum Qualifications: Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (MVR verification required).
- Ability to speak, read, and understand English, including safety rules and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort working in all weather conditions and around moving equipment.
- Willingness to follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating yard jockey equipment, tractors, or similar vehicles.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers and temperature monitoring.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain alert and safety-focused in a fast-paced environment.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and safely enter/exit vehicles using three points of contact.
- Ability to lift and/or move more than 50 lbs occasionally.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, night vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Certain physical demands are necessary to perform the job, including regular exposure to moving vehicles, mechanical parts, elevated areas, and all weather conditions.
