Yard Hostler - Sunday through Thursday; FT - Ellenwood

About the role

The Yard Hostler is responsible for safely handling and maneuvering tractor trailers on the yard and within an area.

Responsibilities

• Move and spot trailers to facilitate warehouse sorting and processing for shipment.
• Communicate with Inbound and Outbound Leads on trailer move prioritization.
• Document and perform trailer moves for both Inbound and Outbound operations.
• Perform yard checks throughout the day for Inbound and Outbound.
• Operate yard truck in a safe manner.
• Drive and operate a vehicle under 15 mph in and around facility.
• Function and interact daily with facility personnel and comply with facility safety requirements.
• Ensure seals are on applicable trailers.
• Track trailer inspections.
• Assist customer’s carriers with instruction and direction while on the yard.
• Maintain cleanliness of grounds.
• Verify and/or report damages.
• Perform different tasks such as working floor freight and mixed freight while keeping accurate count and attention to detail.
• Other duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1-year related experience and/or training.
• Safe truck and trailer operating skills required.
• Experience with backing 53-foot trailers.
• Current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred; verifiable experience considered.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.

Working Conditions: Ability to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear for extended periods; occasionally required to sit and climb or balance; regularly lift and/or move up to 50‑75 pounds; occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat or cold including year‑round outdoor weather; must be able to climb in and out of vehicles and occasionally work at height; continual loud noise; ability to work in fast‑paced environment.

Schedule

Shift: 6:00 am – 3:00 pm or until; Sunday through Thursday.
