Yard Driver

We’re looking for a Yard Driver to maintain a neat, orderly lot focused on maximizing efficiency in servicing company needs. This role also includes completing local deliveries as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate Yard Truck to maneuver and park large, oversized loads.
• Account for records involving container numbers.
• Function and interact daily with distribution center personnel and comply with safety requirements.
• Communicate using cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, and personnel.
• Move trailers in and out of bays, inspect new deliveries, and provide support where needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and practice safe work habits per company policies.
• Wear and properly use personal protective equipment.
• Maintain compliance with ELD, vehicle condition reports, and all other aspects of DOT compliance.
• Keep updated on current DOT rules and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL license.
• Clean driving record with no major accidents and no alcohol or drug convictions.
• At least 1 year all-weather driving experience.
• Minimum 1 year yard jockey experience.
• Ability to communicate proactively and effectively, including comprehending and communicating detailed instructions, reading and writing, and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Skills

• Knowledge of DOT rules, regulations, and other DOT compliance requirements.
• Ability to safely and efficiently utilize a yard truck to maneuver trailers in small spaces and throughout the yard.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Able to effectively manage competing priorities and tasks.
• Ability to operate tractor with 53’ trailer on various roads and highways throughout designated regions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands

• Able to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, push, and handle and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
• Ability to move throughout all areas of the distribution center yard.
• Sitting: 90%
• Standing, walking, lifting, shifting, or arranging product: 5%
• Desk or phone work: 5%

Pay

Expected base pay: $0.55 - $0.69 per mile (based on experience).
