About the Role

Under the direction of the Youth Development Director and consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Y Kids Lead will be directly responsible for the safety, supervision, leadership, and guidance of afterschool participants in cooperation with other YMCA staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance for a group of 200 participants and 50 staff members.
  • Work closely and cohesively with a team of 5-7 other leadership staff members.
  • Provide growth and development opportunities for campers, participants, and staff.
  • Develop and operate all aspects of the program schedule.
  • Implement Character Development Traits in daily activities.
  • Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, appearance, and health.
  • Demonstrate respect and care for all programming.
  • Build and maintain a positive environment for all participants.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of activity areas throughout and at the end of the program.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of participants before and after program hours as requested.
  • Facilitate accurate check-in and check-out for program participants and maintain precise attendance records.
  • Support counselors in executing lesson plans and making necessary adjustments.
  • Facilitate proper group behavior in all activities.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
  • Manage appropriate behavior with all children and implement the participant discipline policy when necessary.
  • Maintain all equipment and report when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • Create a safe, inclusive environment by following all YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, reporting concerns, and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age and/or one year of college education.
  • Experience or training significant for afterschool programs.
  • Interest in children and evidence of emotional maturity, good moral character, judgment, integrity, and leadership capability.
  • Enjoyment and appreciation of character development.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
  • Complete BSS, Child Abuse Prevention, and Security trainings prior to the first day of work and maintain them yearly.
  • Desire to learn and apply experiences as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate positively with members, participants, and staff.

Pay

USD $11.00 - USD $14.00 per hour

Schedule

Expected during programming hours, including varied weeknights (Monday - Friday) and Saturdays with varied hours.
