About the role
The Office of the Provost at Touro University is seeking a creative XR Experience Designer & Lab Specialist to lead and support the development of the Mixed Reality (MR) Lab. This role combines user-centered immersive experience design with lab operations to enhance teaching, learning, and campus engagement through VR, AR, and MR.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, setup, and maintenance of the Mixed Reality Lab.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement MR-enhanced courses.
- Design, develop, and deliver engaging learning experiences using AR/VR/MR technologies.
- Design and develop immersive VR experiences using platforms such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar tools.
- Ensure intuitive and engaging user interactions within VR environments.
- Build VR environments, 3D assets, and interactive elements tailored to course objectives.
- Research, design, and evaluate learning resources, technologies, and instructional materials to support MR initiatives.
- Work closely with the Touro web design team to create and maintain a user-friendly VR catalog website showcasing MR lab resources, experiences, articles, blogs, and project highlights.
- Design and deliver instructional materials, multimedia resources, and technical documentation.
- Conduct training sessions and faculty development workshops on utilizing MR technology.
- Provide consultation, training, and hands-on support for faculty, staff, and students in VR/AR/MR, including fundamentals, software use, and instructional integration.
- Test, analyze, and troubleshoot VR content, systems, and related technologies.
- Create and design 3D environments for VR scenes/experiences using 3D software such as Blender, Maya, and similar tools.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of VR initiatives in enhancing learning outcomes.
- Manage and support lab hardware, software, and media systems, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct usability research across multiple software platforms to identify optimal tools for course integration and implementation.
- Design and create event and promotional materials for the MR Lab.
- Generate bi-weekly reports on headset usage, engagement metrics, and system performance.
- Organize, present, and deliver VR/AR demonstrations to the campus community.
- Film VR activities during faculty visits; edit and share content for program promotion.
- Create instructional videos focused on VR headset usability, interface navigation, and software workflows.
- Create articles and blog posts showcasing MR activities and highlighting classroom impact for marketing efforts.
- Manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, integrating immersive technologies into teaching, research, and administrative initiatives.
- Support cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including IT, library, faculty, and instructional designers, to ensure alignment and smooth operation of lab and technology initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Educational Technology, UX/UI Design, or related field required; Master's preferred.
- Experience designing user experiences and interfaces in immersive or interactive environments.
- Experience with VR/AR/MR technologies and platforms, including Unity, Unreal Engine, or similar.
- Experience managing lab operations, projects, or technical staff is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and project management skills.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) and other related software.

- Familiarity with accessibility standards (ADA) and inclusive design.
- Strong interest in VR/AR/MR technologies for educational and research applications.
Pay
Minimum Salary: USD $64,000.00/year
Maximum Salary: USD $80,000.00/year
