Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of Licensed Professional Counseling guidelines, standards, and regulations.
- Knowledge of best practice methods in crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of behavioral assessment standards.
- Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act guidelines, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines, Oklahoma Licenses professional Counselor regulations, Oklahoma Licensed Clinical Social Worker regulations, the American Counselors Association code of ethics, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and university policies and procedures.
Major Duties
- Provides direct service in the form of short-term individual counseling related to student’s mental health and personal and education concerns.
- Addresses issues relating to stress, coping skills, and academic progress/retention.
- Provides crisis intervention for critical incidents or individual clinical emergencies, i.e. provide short-term crisis therapy, assessment for in-patient care or other safety planning.
- Provides training to faculty and staff related to mental health issues.
- Creates and delivers presentations regarding student mental health and other related issues.
- Serves on various divisional and university committees.
- Collaborates in Behavioral Intervention Team efforts.
- Serves as a liaison between the university and community service organizations.
- Assists with drug and alcohol assessments as part of the student conduct process.
- Conducts LPC counselor supervision and/or practicum/intern supervision in accordance with associated rules and regulations.
- Aids direct supervisor with assessment and report writing.
- Aids supervisor with day to day functioning of clinical services.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Controls
- The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions.
- The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Complexity/Scope of Work
The work consists of varied professional counseling duties. The unique and challenging nature of client cases contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to direct and participate in the provision of counseling services to university students. Success in this position contributes to the successful provision of those services.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, reaching, or stooping.
- The employee frequently lifts light objects.
- On-Call and after-hours availability required.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility
- This position may supervise undergraduate, graduate, practicum students, interns, candidates for licensure or other developing counselors as qualifications and licenses/certifications allow.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
- Licensed Professional Counselor Certification or LCSW (Licensed clinical Social Worker) Certification preferred (or related).
- LPC/LCSW Supervisor Certification Preferred (or Related).
