X-Ray Tech, Per Diem

About the role

The X-Ray Technologist performs diagnostic testing according to established departmental procedures, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. This position operates diagnostic equipment, including peripheral equipment, in a safe and efficient manner to obtain optimal test results and manages the patient during the diagnostic procedure to meet patient care standards. The X-Ray Technologist ensures supplies are maintained, reports equipment problems, and actively participates in student clinical education activities where applicable. This role supports organizational goals through quality customer service, performance improvement efforts, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic testing as directed by the physician at a competent technical level with minimal supervision.
• Operate diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently to obtain optimal test results.
• Manage patients during diagnostic procedures to meet patient care standards.
• Maintain supplies and report equipment issues to appropriate staff.
• Participate in and support student clinical education activities.
• Demonstrate department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
• Provide quality customer service and participate in performance improvement efforts.

Work Environment

• Potential exposure to hazards and risks of a hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, potential injury, and hazardous substances (e.g., electromagnetic radiation).
• Ability to stand for the majority of the time and sit in front of a CRT monitor for extended periods.
• Extensive pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient populations: skeletal and all body systems, including but not limited to pulmonary, cardiac/cardiovascular, GI, GU/GYN, and oncology during radiology exams.

Requirements

• Licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). License must be renewed biennially.
• Registered as an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). ARRT certification expires on the incumbent’s date of birth and must be renewed annually.
• Graduate of an accredited radiological technologist school.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification required.
• 1 year of diagnostic testing experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at hire; training provided within 30-60 days if not proficient initially.
• Ability to multitask with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
