Responsible for managing and monitoring all non-conformities, design deviations, OSW, and late changes to support production. Responds to technical questions, creates work orders based on non-conformities, and attends section handovers. Establishes and maintains effective communication with European Plants, on-site production teams, quality, suppliers, design engineers, and Aircraft Managers.

Your Working Environment

On ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as FAL focal point regarding Plant activities and their suppliers through constant coordination and monitoring.
  • Provide technical support to X-Plant production.
  • Fully autonomous on one plant with sufficient working knowledge of 2+ additional plants.
  • Lead major topics end-to-end within the team.
  • Efficiently coordinate and communicate with all required functions within the FAL and plant levels.
  • Foresee blockers within the FAL based on station milestones.
  • Act as primary responsible for Plant activities with full knowledge scope to work autonomously without supervision.
  • Establish/verify the technical content of non-conformities and documentation, including validation of new employees' work.
  • Steer/challenge all non-conformities, concessions, and OSW within assigned Plant responsibility.
  • Take the lead to drumbeat non-conformities using initiative and knowledge to succeed.
  • Organize/facilitate regular meetings with suppliers/partners (Folio reviews, drumbeat, multi-function team (MFT), etc.).
  • Ensure non-compliance management according to Airbus and Authority rules.
  • Participate as an active team member, including providing orientation support to new colleagues and trainees.
  • Provide training/guidance to new employees and act as a mentor/coach on the team.
  • Act as representative and leader for ME X-Plant in projects and meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Participation and/or the ability to successfully pass the following Airbus Courses:
    • Airbus Gen Fam (General Familiarization).
    • Airbus SA Familiarization (EL01).
    • Airbus Manufacturing Systems AMS.
    • Airbus Production Rules 80T.
    • Corporate Presentation Skills.
    • Occupational Health and Safety.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Manufacturing and Engineering experience in FAL Mobile manufacturing environment or work experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably with an aviation company.
  • Proven degree of flexibility and initiative in practical problem-solving.
  • Proven ability to influence others and lead small teams with demonstrated training experience.
  • Proven ability to coordinate several projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work/lead on major topics within at least one plant.
  • Good working knowledge of 2+ plants.
  • Motivation to learn.
  • Able to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings and technical standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and tools used in manufacturing engineering.
  • Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, cross-functional team environment, as well as independently and with customers and channels.
  • Critical thinking with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with all internal customers.
  • Ability to work in an international team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to present clear and concise briefings and reports to customers and executives.
  • Proficiency in other languages is recommended but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Airbus processes and methods.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Google Mail, Docs, and Sheets) and Airbus IT-Tools (AIRINA, TAKSY, ECM, eQLB, ALB).
  • Knowledge of common applications such as SAP.

Complexity of the Role

This role makes numerous independent decisions on behalf of the X-Plant Manufacturing Engineering team on how to solve various problems on the aircraft. This role does not have any direct reports but acts as a subject matter expert for the X-Plant production teams. Regular contact with the X-Plant multifunction team made up of Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, and Logistics.

Level of Decision Making

Operational decisions that drive the critical aircraft non-conformities forward to a timely solution.

Organizational Information

This position will be within the X-Plant Manufacturing Engineering department reporting to a Manufacturing Engineering supervisor. This position does not have any direct reports.

Travel Required

10% Domestic and International.

Citizenship

Authorized to work in the US without current or future need of visa sponsorship.

Physical Requirements

  • Onsite or remote: Onsite 100% of the time (direct production support).
  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports, and engineering drawings on a daily basis.
  • Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms on a daily basis.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information, and participate in communications on a daily basis.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts on a daily basis.
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs on a daily basis.
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs irregularly.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools irregularly.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on a computer on a daily basis.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving irregularly.
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor on a daily basis.
