About the role

The WWTP Collection System & Plant Maintenance Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Belvedere Tiburon, CA. This role performs routine and preventive maintenance on wastewater treatment plant equipment and collection system infrastructure, including pumps, motors, valves, piping, and related mechanical and electrical components. Daily tasks include inspecting and troubleshooting equipment, cleaning and maintaining sewer lines and lift stations, documenting maintenance work, and assisting with repairs to ensure reliable operation and regulatory compliance. The technician operates a variety of tools, vehicles, and equipment, follows safety and environmental procedures, and collaborates with operators and other team members to support plant operations and emergency response. The role may require participation in after-hours standby or call-out duty and working in outdoor, confined space, and physically demanding environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on wastewater treatment plant equipment and collection system infrastructure, including pumps, motors, valves, piping, and related mechanical and electrical components.
• Inspect and troubleshoot equipment to identify issues and ensure proper functioning.
• Clean and maintain sewer lines and lift stations.
• Document maintenance work and assist with repairs to ensure reliable operation and regulatory compliance.
• Operate a variety of tools, vehicles, and equipment in compliance with safety and environmental procedures.
• Collaborate with operators and other team members to support plant operations and emergency response.
• Participate in after-hours standby or call-out duty as required.
• Work in outdoor, confined space, and physically demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in wastewater treatment plants and collection systems, including pumps, motors, valves, and piping.
• Experience with routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance, including troubleshooting, repair, and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and follow technical manuals, equipment schematics, work orders, and maintenance procedures.
• Understanding of wastewater operations, basic hydraulics, and regulatory and safety standards related to wastewater collection and treatment.
• Strong commitment to safety practices, including working in confined spaces, around chemicals, and in varying outdoor conditions.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and follow direction from supervisors.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing, and working on uneven terrain for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; ability to operate District vehicles and equipment.
• High school diploma or GED; technical coursework or certifications in wastewater, mechanical, or electrical fields are beneficial.
• Prior experience in wastewater, water utility, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred but not required; willingness to learn and pursue relevant operator or maintenance certifications is a plus.
