WSI certification Instructor (as-needed)

About the role

HealthFitness is hiring a WSI Instructor at our client site located in Racine, Wisconsin. In this position, you will instruct a WSI certification course onsite from approximately 8/24-8/27. Run WSI certification courses on-site to certify candidates who will be hired to work on-site as Swim Instructors.

Key Accountabilities

• Communicates promptly regarding teaching availability, class assignments, and class planning preparations.
• Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross WSI program.
• Organizes and directs activities of assigned participants to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
• Supervises participants while they are practicing course skills and provides timely, positive, and corrective feedback as they learn.
• Evaluates participants as they perform skills, focusing on critical performance steps as described in the American Red Cross skill charts.
• Teaches course as designed -- following all course outlines, policies and procedures as noted in the instructor course documents.
• Creates a non-threatening environment that is conducive to achieving the learning objectives.
• Provides for the health and safety of participants by always ensuring:
  • Manikins have been properly cleaned
  • Course equipment is clean and in good working order
  • Participants are aware of health precautions and guidelines concerning the transmission of infectious diseases
  • All participants have the physical ability to perform the skills and know they can consult you if they have concerns about their physical ability to do so
  • The classroom, aquatic facility, and all practice areas are free of hazards
• Works with supervisor on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective American Red Cross courses.
• Communicates with the management team about any issues relating to the facilities, staff, or patrons.

Minimum Requirements

• Current American Red Cross WSI Instructor Certification
• Able to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights
• Able to interact with people of all ages in a positive manner
• Dependable, alert, and adaptable
• Demonstrates top notch instruction and possess excellent motivational skills

Compensation

$35 - $40/hour. Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications.
