Chemistry Teaching Assistant Hess Division: CAS Department: Chemistry Experience: advanced Job Code: FWSCASCHEMTA Supervisor/Reports To: Tom Hess Start Date: 8/25/2026 Support General Chemistry and Quantitative Analysis labs by preparing materials, guiding students, and upholding lab safety. Ideal for students with strong lab skills, attention to detail, and a passion for chemistry. Responsibilities And Career Competencies Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, communicate schedule changes in advance, and wear appropriate attire – PAssist with lab set-up, including making standard solutions and unknowns; operate lab instrumentation independently – TW, CT, TArrive 15 minutes before lab to ensure setup is complete before students arrive – PAssist students and answer questions during lab; Foster a collaborative environment that values individuals from varied perspectives – C, CT, L, CTREnsure all safety regulations are followed by students and self – P, L, CTEnsure lab is clean and equipment is returned and powered off after sessions – C, TW, LProvide clerical support, proofreading, photocopying, and filing; assist with projects as assigned – TWGrade lab reports while maintaining confidentiality – C, P, CTPrioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines successfully – P, LEffectively communicate your skills and availability in your application – CSDPerform other duties as determined by the supervisor – P, TW Competencies/Skills: Communication (C), Teamwork (TW), Professionalism (P), Career & Self Development (CSD), Critical Thinking (CT), Community Transformation (CTR), Leadership (L), Technology (T) Required Skills: Must have completed General Chemistry I and II and associated labs. Preferred Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, attention to detail, strong active listening abilities, public speaking, written & verbal communication, willingness to learn new things. Student has completed at least organic chemistry and/or quantitative analysis. Work Schedule: 10 hours a week Work Conditions: Toxic Agents, Machinery Physical Demands Number of Positions: 1 - 3 Pay Rate: $10.50/hour Location: Armington 3rd floor.
