WRUF-FM/GHQ Brand Manager/Talent

Gainesville, FL – The College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida is seeking a Talent Brand Manager for WRUF-FM, 1037TheGator.com, and GHQ.

About the role

The Talent Brand Manager will oversee programming for commercial radio station WRUF-FM and non-commercial GHQ, an immersive professional experience for College of Journalism and Communications students. This position must meet and exceed mutually agreed-upon ratings goals while ensuring adherence to UF Media Properties, College of Journalism and Communications, University of Florida program standards, and FCC regulations.

The Talent Brand Manager establishes and communicates programming and content goals, measures results, and provides leadership in a sales-friendly environment. This role includes hosting a live weekday air shift on WRUF-FM (a 100,000-watt commercial country-format station), coordinating community-related remotes and events, and maintaining oversight of production elements. The position also involves supervising syndicated or outside services, coordinating with a programming consultant, and collaborating with the WRUF-AM Brand Manager and WUFT-TV/FM personnel on university-wide media projects.

The Brand Manager will work alongside the Assistant Brand Manager/Social Media Manager to ensure high performance and provide quality professional experiences for students, including training in industry-standard techniques for on-air, production, programming, and social media.

Responsibilities

• Direct and enhance the overall performance of WRUF-FM, GHQ, and associated digital/social media channels.
• Host a live daypart on WRUF-FM (103.7 The Gator), a flagship station for Florida Gators football and men’s basketball broadcasts.
• Develop and manage the department budget.
• Set and communicate programming/content goals and measure outcomes.
• Coordinate with external industry and public organizations.
• Supervise syndicated or outside services and collaborate with a programming consultant.
• Oversee production elements and train students in on-air, production, programming, and social media techniques.
• Plan and execute community-related remotes and events.
• Work with WRUF-AM and WUFT-TV/FM personnel on cross-property projects.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a relevant field; or a bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years of relevant experience in commercial radio, preferably in country or CHR formats.

The College of Journalism and Communications is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and comprises four departments: Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations, and Telecommunication. The college offers hands-on learning through the Innovation News Center, The Agency, Frank gatherings, the Division of Multimedia Properties, the Summer Media Institute, undergraduate research, and various extracurricular activities.

The Division of Media Properties includes seven broadcast stations, providing over 200 students per semester with experience in news, sports, production, management, web design, promotions, and advertising.
