Job Description
Summary
Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.
Essential Functions
- Provide one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines.
- Engage and empower students to become more competent academic and professional writers.
- Teach in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)
- Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting
- Experience working with community college students

- Possess working knowledge of writing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations
- Explain concepts to others effectively
- Communicate study strategies to ensure academic success

- Possess strong organizational and time-management skills
- Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

- Demonstrate basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.
- The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
- The employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and may perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type.
- However, there will be walking; standing; bending; stooping; and carrying of various items and equipment.
- Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
