Position Summary The ideal candidate is a master storyteller who can capture the vibrant academic and extracurricular life of our students, families, faculty and alumni. This position plays a vital role in sharing the school’s mission and values with external and internal audiences. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing, the Writer and Content Specialist will be the team’s primary writer, responsible for creating compelling short-form and long-form written content for both digital platforms and print publications. Working closely with faculty, students, and alumni, this individual will uncover stories and write content that highlights the unique experiences and achievements of our community. Responsibilities Content Creation & Storytelling: Pitch, write, and edit engaging feature stories, profiles, and news articles for the school’s digital platforms and print publications.Community Collaboration: Build strong relationships and work closely with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to source stories. Conduct interviews to accurately capture authentic voices and perspectives that reflect the school's mission.Versatile Writing: Produce both long-form content (profiles, magazine features, event summaries, annual report narratives) and short-form content (news briefs, social media vignettes, and newsletter copy)Editorial Support: Assist with copyediting and proofreading major publications, ensuring accuracy, consistent tone, and alignment with the school’s style guide and brand identity. Maintain the editorial style guide.Project Management: Manage multiple writing assignments simultaneously, moving seamlessly from brainstorming and drafting to editing and final publication, while carefully balancing competing priorities and deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional writing and editing experience, preferably within an independent school, higher education, or non-profit environment.Requirements:Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail and an obsessive commitment to accuracy.Proven ability to write for various formats (print magazines, web, newsletters) and adapt tone for different audiences (prospective families, current parents, employees, alumni).Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills; ability to connect with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.A portfolio demonstrating a track record of producing high-quality feature stories and compelling short-form copy.A collaborative team player who is receptive to creative feedback and eager to immerse themselves in the life of the school.Proficiency in AP Style. This is an on-campus position that involves participating in the daily life of the school. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
