Job Summary
Kindred Hospital San Diego is a 70-bed long-term acute care hospital offering specialized care for extended recovery periods. The Wound Care Coordinator RN manages the facility’s wound care program, providing direct patient care, consulting with staff, and assisting in the development of comprehensive wound management plans.
Essential Functions
- Develops and implements the facility’s wound care program in conjunction with national standards.
- Establishes standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures for wound care.
- Consults with Wound Care Clinicians and acts as a consultant to facility staff and physicians.
- Provides ongoing education to staff on wound care products.
- Evaluates wounds upon admission and ongoing to determine treatment plans and identify problems early.
- Assists in developing and implementing comprehensive wound management and prevention plans.
- Reviews medical records and ensures proper documentation and wound care treatments.
- Investigates adverse events related to wounds and collaborates on action plans.
- Maintains a cost-effective wound care formulary and participates in clinical outcome monitoring.
- Trains new hire Wound Care Coordinators as needed.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

- Knowledge in wound care consistent with NPIAP, AHCPR, WOCN, and CDC guidelines.
- Ability to lead and motivate others.
- Program management skills.
- Fluent English reading, writing, and speaking.
- Good and regular attendance.
Qualifications
- Accredited nursing degree.
- Current state RN license; BSN preferred.
- Professional certification in WOCN, CWS, or WCC within 12 months of employment.
- BLS certification required.
- 1-3 years of licensed professional nursing experience, preferably in acute care settings.
