About the Role

We are looking to call a Worship Pastor who will partner in the vision and mission of First Baptist Church. Our desire is to CONNECT to Jesus and others so that we can be ROOTED and RISING in the Light of Christ! The Worship Pastor will provide spiritual and musical leadership for the worship ministry of First Baptist Church under the supervision of the Senior Pastor. The Worship Pastor will work alongside the pastor, staff, musicians, and volunteers to help create worship environments that are biblically faithful, Christ-centered, spiritually engaging, and focused on helping the congregation respond to the Gospel.

The Worship Pastor will lead the congregation in corporate worship while also investing in and developing the people who serve within the worship ministry. This includes recruiting, equipping, encouraging, and shepherding worship team members, musicians, and vocalists. This is a part-time position of approximately 15 hours per week. Because worship ministry often requires time outside of traditional office hours, the schedule will include appropriate preparation during the week as well as regular participation in Sunday worship and other scheduled services and events.

The Worship Pastor will also serve as part of the church’s ministerial staff and will participate in the ministry of the whole church as time and responsibilities allow.

Schedule

This is a part-time position with an expectation of approximately 15 hours per week. The schedule includes preparation time during the week and ministry responsibilities outside of normal office hours, primarily on Sundays and during scheduled rehearsals.

  • Regular participation in Sunday worship and other scheduled services and events.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Monthly communication with the Senior Pastor regarding worship ministry accomplishments, upcoming plans, needs, volunteer development, and areas where additional support may be needed.
  • Annual review with the Senior Pastor.

Responsibilities

Pastoral Duties

  • Focus on building life-giving relationships with the praise team while maintaining a whole-church mindset.
  • Work closely with the Senior Pastor to ensure that the worship ministry supports the overall vision, theology, and direction of First Baptist Church.
  • Help cultivate a culture of worship that extends beyond Sunday morning and encourages the congregation to live lives of worship throughout the week.
  • Assist as needed and when available with pastoral/administrative duties such as preaching, baptisms, weddings, etc.
  • With approval from the Senior Pastor, lead or preach in other churches for special services, revivals, etc., for the sake of the Kingdom.

Worship Ministry Duties

  • Provide leadership for the church’s weekly worship services, including Sundays and Wednesdays, including planning and leading congregational worship.
  • Lead worship in a manner that is Christ-centered, biblically faithful, congregationally focused, and Spirit-led.
  • Prepare thoroughly for weekly worship services, including song selection, arrangements, transitions, keys, instrumentation, vocal parts, and communication with the worship team.
  • Lead or oversee regular rehearsals for the worship team, helping musicians and vocalists prepare spiritually and musically for worship.
  • Develop a healthy worship ministry culture where volunteers understand that they are serving the congregation and helping lead people in worship, not simply performing music.
  • Provide worship leadership for special services and church-wide events such as Christmas, Easter, baptisms, special worship services, revival or outreach events, and other services as needed.
  • Work with the church’s children and youth ministries to encourage worship among the next generation.
  • Be willing to collaborate with other worship teams in the community for outreach events.
  • Coordinate with the church’s Ministry Assistant and other staff members regarding facility use, scheduling, special services, and church-wide events.
  • Manage the worship ministry budget in cooperation with the Senior Pastor and church leadership.

Qualifications

  • A commitment to living life as a fully devoted follower of Jesus, committed to the inerrant Holy Word of God and led by the Spirit of God.
  • A commitment to live according to the qualifications for eldership as laid out in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3.
  • A commitment to live by the doctrinal statements of First Baptist Church (www.fbcprinceton.com).
  • A commitment to lead with a humble attitude, exemplifying the mind of Christ in Philippians 2:3-8 and the heart of a servant in Mark 10:45 (“Did not come to be served, but to serve”).
  • A commitment to live a sexually pure life that is above reproach, as described in Ephesians 5:3.
  • An ability to communicate well with all groups in the scope of ministry, setting clear expectations and listening to needs, living out James 1:19 (“Be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath”).
  • A commitment to the church through supporting its mission (e.g., tithes and offerings).
  • An understanding that leadership requires personal example: “We cannot lead others to a place we are not personally at nor can we give away something we do not have.”
  • A demonstrated calling into worship ministry and evident faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Related experience in the local church setting.
