About the role
Supervises and works with Water Machinery Repair persons and others in the installation, repair & maintenance of equipment used in the distribution, collection, handling, and treatment of potable and non-potable water & sewage.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and works with skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled personnel in the installation, repair and maintenance of machinery & equipment such as pumps, motors, generators, valves, chlorinators, engines, gates, process piping etc. as may be required or related to the distribution, collection, handling or treatment of potable or non-potable water and sewage.
- Makes work assignments, enforces safety regulations, maintains discipline, orders supplies and equipment and reviews work of personnel assigned during and upon completion of the work assigned to ensure compliance with instructions and conformance with accepted trade practices.
- Performs periodic preventive maintenance & emergency troubleshooting & repairs; maintains potable pumps and conveyors, booster pumps, filter bed equipment and related machinery and equipment.
- Performs minor or incidental repairs on motorized equipment & vehicles used in support of the operation of the water treatment and/or distribution or sewage collection & treatment systems.
- May perform pipefitting, welding or other skilled duties as may be required to accomplish required repairs.
- Performs landscape maintenance & performs incidental building & structural maintenance as directed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Two years acceptable experience supervising workers in the machinery maintenance trade.
- Two years’ experience in the maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems involving pumps, motors, engines, valves, plumbing, collector mechanisms etc.
- Ability and agility sufficient to operate valves and equipment, climb tanks, enter vaults and underground tanks through small access manways, work outside in all weather conditions, lift up to 50lbs. from ground to shoulder height, open manhole covers etc.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with the capabilities and use of small hand and power tools.
- Familiarity with the basics of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
- Requires strong communication skills to work effectively with a diverse population.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Working Conditions
Incumbent may be required to work at any time during the 24-hour day to respond to emergency needs or weather-related events.
Physical Requirements
- Ability and agility sufficient to operate valves and equipment, climb tanks, enter vaults and underground tanks through small access manways, lift up to 50lbs. from ground to shoulder height, open manhole covers etc.
- May be required to operate the various equipment and machines located throughout the water-wastewater campus.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, 7:00am – 3:30pm
Pay
Starting rate $34.03 per hour. Annual increases up to $48.51 per hour.
