Water/Sewer Engineer III

Responsibilities

• Support and lead the planning, design, and delivery of a variety of municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest.
• Collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop practical and innovative solutions that address client needs while meeting regulatory requirements and project objectives.
• Perform and oversee the preparation and modification of engineering calculations, technical reports, hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, plans, specifications, and construction documents for municipal infrastructure projects.
• Contribute to project development from initial planning and alternatives evaluations through final design, permitting, bidding, and construction support.
• May include utility modeling, drainage studies, stormwater management design, flood risk assessments, permitting coordination, and preparation of supporting technical documentation for agency review and approval.
• Applies advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria to projects of varying size and complexity while exercising increasing independent judgment in evaluating alternatives and developing recommendations.
• Works closely with project managers to perform research, planning, design, and delivery activities while leveraging technical knowledge and experience to support successful project execution.
• Develops water, wastewater, and stormwater system models; pipeline and drainage system design; flood resiliency and watershed evaluations; green infrastructure assessments; utility rehabilitation projects; and capital improvement planning efforts.
• Leverages engineering knowledge, industry tools, and design software to develop conceptual and detailed designs, evaluate alternatives, and deliver high-quality solutions for municipal clients throughout the Midwest.
• Mentors and reviews the work of junior staff, shares technical expertise, and contributes to the continued growth and development of the water practice.
• Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
• Aid in the development of project specifications.
• Responsible for development of discipline-specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
• Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
• Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
• Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects.
• Performs quality control reviews of discipline-specific engineering project elements/deliverables.
• Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience,
• or Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience,
• or PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Optimizes work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Exhibits experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad.
• Exhibits a thorough understanding of the application related to engineering, geometric and algebraic principles.
• Manages time, proactively forecasts, and communicates project development needs.

Skills

• Independent progress of the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
• Knowledge of engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation and/or AutoCad.
• Thorough understanding of engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles.
• Ability to manage time, forecast, and communicate project development needs.
